Dissolution of My Self Pills and Choices

The bottle changes how Hector talks. It does not buy him a second life.

Pills and Choices

The Before You Buy FAQ for Dissolution of My Self answers the branching question in one paragraph: exploration order and whether you take the pills affect order, pacing, and presentation. They will not change the ending. This page exists because players still treat the medicine bottle like a Persona social link. It is not. It is a filter on the same collapse.

If you have not learned the click loop, read how to play first. If you want to know which props share the room with the bottle, use room objects.

What the game actually offers

Steam lists ten achievements. Two of the visible ones are named like medical compliance:

  • Take pills on time
  • Give up treatment

Those names are the cleanest public evidence that both attitudes are intended. They are also evidence that the studio wants you to notice the difference. A difference you are meant to notice is not the same thing as a secret good ending. Official feature text repeats the single-ending line in the store description: in-game options mainly affect how you read and experience the text, and do not unlock alternate endings or a second storyline.

So the pill choice is real. The second campaign is not.

Take pills on time

Choosing to take medicine “on time” is the run where you cooperate with whatever regimen still exists in the apartment. It will not heal the kingdom, restore Hector’s title, or convert the relationship with Matvey into something the FAQ would call healthy. The FAQ already said there are no healthy, normal romantic relationships here, and playtesters disagreed about whether love can save anything.

What you should expect instead:

  • A different rhythm between memories.
  • A different willingness from Hector to stay coherent while he talks.
  • Achievement progress for that specific attitude toward treatment.

If you are nauseated by the idea of helping him stay medicated while he dismantles himself, that discomfort is part of the design. You are still dissolving him. You are just doing it with the bottle in the picture.

Give up treatment

Refusing the regimen is the other listed path. It is not a hidden rebel ending. It is the presentation where treatment is abandoned and the remaining objects have to carry a less managed voice. Substance misuse is in the content descriptors either way; this choice is not a morality exam that the game grades with sunshine.

Expect:

  • Another pacing profile.
  • Lines that hit in a different order relative to other objects.
  • The matching achievement if you commit instead of mixing both attitudes in one confused file.

If you save-scum every capsule, you will learn the UI and lose the only thing the fork can give you: a consistent state of mind. Official copy warns that Hector’s recounting depends on that state of mind. Do not fight the warning.

How pills interact with click order

Think of two sliders, not a flowchart:

  1. What he has already forgotten (which objects blurred).
  2. Whether he is still taking the medicine.

The walkthrough tells you to pick a pill attitude early so slider 2 stays still while slider 1 moves. If you drink late, early memories were narrated by a different Hector than late ones. That can be interesting on a second run. It is messy on a first run if you were trying to “understand the lore.” There is lore. It is also being actively thrown away. See endings for why the finale does not fork.

What pills are not

  • They are not a hidden key to a combat form.
  • They are not a way to spare Matvey.
  • They are not a skip button for content warnings. Self-harm, manipulation, transgressive intimacy, regression, violence, and trauma remain in the work.
  • They are not DLC. Both attitudes are in the $5.99 game.

Practical recommendation

First file: pick one achievement name and role-play it. Take pills on time or give up treatment. Click the room in whatever order the objects list still shows as solid.

Second file: flip the bottle and reverse two or three of your first-run hotspots (window versus documents is enough). You are done when you have heard the difference. You do not need a third file unless you are chasing remaining achievements.

If a guide on the wider internet claims a true ending behind a specific pill-plus-object combo, compare it with the Steam FAQ. The FAQ is dated immediately before launch and was written to stop people from throwing money at the wrong genre expectations. This wiki is on the FAQ’s side.

When the bottle blurs, that fork is over for the file. Continue with whatever furniture is left. The apartment will keep shrinking. That shrinkage is the campaign.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Do pills change the ending of Dissolution of My Self?

No. Official FAQ and store copy say they change order, pacing, and presentation. The ending stays singular. See endings.

Should I take pills on my first run?

Either run is complete. Commit to one attitude so Hector’s voice stays consistent. Both have Steam achievements.

Can I mix taking and refusing pills in one save?

You can click around, but you will muddy the only thing the fork changes. For a clean comparison, use two files and the walkthrough phases.
